FRONTSIDE: Gothenburg International Chamber Music Festival

The goal of the festival is to set the stage for musical encounters that touch all of our senses and provide the chamber music lover with the best of the best of the already known, while, at the same time, highlighting the hidden and previously unknown.

This first year will focus on the theme of m/s Transatlantic, which links strongly to Gothenburg’s location with the great Swedish-American Liners and the emigration to the United States in the 1800s and 1900s. A Breadcrumb trail of American music, which has influenced European art music, but also vice versa, runs throughout the festival. Many great European musicians and composers, as we all know, emigrated to the United States: Stravinsky, Bartók, Korngold, Schönberg and many more. The theme of the festival also relates to the situation at hand, where people emigrate and migrate more or less voluntarily and how this affects cultural and musical development.
